What is AI-native?
AI-native describes a company or product built from the start around AI, so that removing the AI would leave it largely unable to do its job. An AI-assisted product adds AI features to software that already works without them. An AI-native product uses models and agents as its core engine, and its workflows assume the software reads, writes and decides alongside people.
Why it matters to a revenue leader
Many software vendors now claim the label, so the word alone proves little. The useful question is what the product does that its older equivalent could not. For a revenue leader, AI-native matters in two places: the tools you buy and the competitors you face. A smaller services competitor that runs estimating, quoting and follow-up with AI may answer bid requests in hours with a fraction of your overhead.
Example
A CRO at a PE-backed facility services company compares two quoting tools. One adds an AI writing button to an existing template library. The other drafts the full proposal from site walk notes, the price book and the customer's agreement history, then routes it for approval. The second is closer to AI-native, and the CRO asks to see it run on the company's own jobs before deciding.
"If the AI were switched off tomorrow, what would this product still do for us?"
