What is T2D3?
T2D3 is a growth path for software companies: triple revenue twice, then double it three times. Neeraj Agrawal of Battery Ventures described it in 2015, starting from about $2 million in annual recurring revenue. Each step is one year, so the path runs from $2 million to $6 million, $18 million, $36 million, $72 million and $144 million.
Why it matters to a revenue leader
T2D3 is a growth benchmark many SaaS boards carry in their heads, so a revenue leader is often measured against it whether or not the plan says so. Tripling revenue in a year means pipeline, hiring and ramp all have to scale well ahead of results. Sustaining it is hard, so the useful conversation is which year of the path the company is in and what capacity that year requires.
Example
Fictitious numbersA company finishes the year at $6 million in ARR and plans to triple to $18 million. If a fully productive seller adds $800,000 in net new ARR a year, the plan needs 15 productive sellers, plus extra hires to cover ramp and attrition.
"Which year of T2D3 does our plan assume, and do we have the ramped sellers to deliver it?"
