What is a deficiency quote?
A deficiency quote is a quote to fix problems found during an inspection, common in fire and life safety. The inspection report lists the deficiencies; the quote prices the parts, labor and access needed to correct them. Typical examples are corroded sprinkler heads, failed fire alarm devices or a fire pump that failed its annual test. The same pattern shows up in HVAC and testing work.
Why it matters to a revenue leader
NFPA 25 makes the property owner responsible for correcting deficiencies and impairments, and NFPA annex guidance describes a generally accepted practice of fixing critical deficiencies within 30 days and noncritical ones within 90. That makes the deficiency quote one of the few sales opportunities that arrives with a reason, a deadline and a decision maker attached. The revenue leader's job is to make sure it reaches that decision maker quickly, with the code consequence explained in plain language. Slow or overly technical quotes sit in an inbox and age out.
Example
An annual inspection at a distribution center finds a failed tamper switch and six painted sprinkler heads. The seller sends a deficiency quote within two days, ties each line to the inspection report, and walks the facility manager through which items are critical. The customer signs the critical items that week and schedules the rest for the next budget cycle.
