What is agent-to-agent (A2A)?
Agent-to-agent (A2A) means AI agents from different systems or vendors communicating directly with each other to share information and complete a task. A2A is also the name of a specific open standard, the Agent2Agent protocol. Google announced it in April 2025 and moved it to the Linux Foundation in June 2025. It gives agents a common way to find each other, exchange messages and coordinate work.
Why it matters to a revenue leader
Revenue teams already run on integrations between the CRM, quoting, field service and billing. A2A extends that idea to agents: a renewal agent in one system could ask a pricing agent in another for a quote without a person copying data between screens. That raises every question an integration raises, plus new ones about which agent may commit the company to a price and who reviews what agents agreed on its behalf. Google describes A2A as complementing the Model Context Protocol, which connects a single agent to tools and data.
Example
Fictitious numbersA mechanical services company with 25 sellers uses one vendor's agent to manage service agreement renewals and another vendor's agent for quoting. Through an A2A connection, the renewal agent asks the quoting agent to price the next term at current labor rates. The draft lands with the account owner for approval before anything reaches the customer.
"If two of our AI agents agree on something, which person approves it before the customer sees it?"
